Wabash raced out to a 22-point lead in the first half against visiting Hiram on Saturday before holding on in the closing minutes for an 87-78 victory.

Wabash (14-7, 10-4 NCAC) took an early 17-4 lead over the Terriers (6-15, 3-11 NCAC). The Little Giants stretched the advantage to as many as 22 points when
Kellen Schreiber scored on a put-back basket with five minutes left in the first half for a 35-13 Wabash lead. The advantage fell to 17 points at 43-26 heading into the second half.

The Little Giants maintained the double-digit lead until Hiram began chipping away midway through the final period. Wabash held a 67-49 lead with 10:57 left to play before the Terriers' pressure helped Hiram go on a 9-0 run to get within nine points.
Harrison Hallstrom ended the Wabash scoring drought with a layup off a pass from
Tyler Watson. The Terriers responded with back-to-back baskets from Antonio McQueen to draw within seven points at 69-62.

Jack Davidson provided the offensive punch that pushed the Wabash lead back to double digits over the next minute. The junior guard drilled a three-point shot as part of his game-high 27 points. Davidson added a free throw to stretch the lead to 11 points before Sherman Dean III scored on a pull-up jumper to make the score 73-64. Davidson struck once again, this time setting up a three-point basket by
Connor Rotterman with a quick pass to the right corner of the floor for a 76-64 lead with 6:22 remaining in the game.

Wabash maintained its double-digit lead until Tyler McMillion hit a layup with 1:39 left to play to bring Hiram within nine points at 82-73. Schreiber pushed the Wabash advantage back to 10 points with a free throw with 1:09 on the clock before Dean made it an eight-point game with two of his 22 points with a basket with 58 seconds remaining. Hallstrom provided a 10-point cushion again with two free throws in the final 37 seconds, but Brodgie Gordon connected on a three-point fast-break basket with 33 seconds left for an 85-78 score in favor of the Little Giants. Schreiber put the game out of reach with a layup with eight seconds left in the contest to provide the final nine-point margin of victory.

Hiram outscored Wabash 52-44 over the final 20 minutes of the game, thanks in part a 22-point second half effort by Gordon, who finished with a team-best 24 points for the Terriers. Wabash committed eight turnovers leading to nine points for Hiram in the second half.

Wabash shot 48.5 percent from the field in the game by hitting 32 of 66 attempts. Hiram finished 31-of-64 for the game (48.4 percent) but hit 21-of-36 attempts for 58.3 percent in the second half.

Hallstrom joined Davidson in double-figures scoring for the Little Giants with 12 points. He grabbed nine rebounds to move into third place on the Wabash all-time rebounding list with 744. He moved past Daniel Purvlicis '16 with 737 career rebounds. Purvlicis was one of several former Wabash players in attendance at Saturday's game as part of the alumni basketball game and recognition event at halftime of the varsity contest.

The victory extended the Wabash home winning streak to nine games and gave the Little Giants a weekend double-header sweep after defeating Allegheny 83-71 Friday night at Chadwick Court. Wabash will complete its four-game home stand on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. contest against DePauw University.
