Wabash Wins Rain-Shortened Game Versus Dordt University

Wabash picked up a 6-2 win over Dordt University Tuesday evening in a rain-shortened five-inning contest in Tucson, Arizona.

The Little Giants (6-2) trailed 1-0 before erupting for three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Matthew Annee opened the frame by blasting a triple to right center field. Sean Smith scored Annee with a single to tie the score at 1-1. Drew Prather smashed an RBI single to center to give Wabash the 2-1 lead. Henry Wannemuehler brought Prather home with a sacrifice fly to complete the three-run inning.

The Defenders (4-11) scored their second run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Wabash answered with three more runs in its half of the fourth. Prather started the inning with a single and moved to second when the ball was misplayed by the Dordt left fielder. Michael Hoppel and Wannameuhler both drew walks, but a fielder's choice to retire Prather at home left the bases loaded with one out.

Austin Simmers scored a pair of runs with his double to right center. Jackson Blevins added the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly.

Jacob Bishop picked up the win in his first collegiate start. He pitched 4-1/3 innings and scattered five hits with one earned run. He struck out seven batters and walked three. Bishop left the game with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fifth inning. Wabash closer Zach Moffett came on in relief and induced a ground ball for the game-ending double play to earn his third save of the season.

Wabash will play Buena Vista University on Thursday evening with the first pitch slated for 7 p.m. MST.
