Wabash extended its 1-0 first-half lead at Wittenberg with two goals in the final period to earn a 3-0 victory over the host Tigers Tuesday evening in North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer action.
Jerry Little II picked up his first goal of the season in the 31st minute off a pass from
Coledon Johnson to give Wabash (10-4-1, 3-2-1 NCAC) the lead it would not relinquish.
Timothy Herring picked up his second goal of the season in the 66th minute with
Bruno Zamora handing out his fifth assist of the year on the play.Â
Herring scored again in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick to put the game away for the Little Giants.Â
Wabash goalkeeper
Michael Bertram faced one shot on goal to record his only save of the evening on five Wittenberg (6-6-3, 1-4-1 NCAC) total shot attempts. The Little Giants finished the match with 14 Â shots and eight shots on goal.
"We got off to a little bit of a slow start in the first 20 minutes," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We found a way to dig ourselves out of that rough patch at the beginning of the game. We didn't play our best soccer but we created some opportunities and scored a good goal in the first half. We played a really good second half.
"Tim Herring has really been working hard to get back into the mix and establish himself at an important part of the year. I was happy that he was able to get a couple of goals. It was really just a great all-around performance by the whole team, including the defense side to get the shutout. Now we look forward to a very tough game on Saturday before finishing up the regular season with two home games."
Wabash travels to Delaware, Ohio, on Saturday to play 22nd-ranked Ohio Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
