Wabash nearly shot the lights out of Chadwick Court Saturday afternoon when the Little Giants played the Wittenberg Tigers. Wabash outscored the visitors 59-35 in the second half to claim a 101-73 victory in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

Wabash (6-3, 3-1 NCAC) shot 36-of-57 from the field for 63.2 percent, the ninth-best single-game shooting performance in program history. Â

Wabash and Wittenberg (3-4, 3-1 NCAC) both split five first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll with the Tigers earning the top pick as the favorite to win the NCAC title. The game appeared to be a showdown of two conference heavyweights in the first half. The Little Giants took an eight-point lead in the first three minutes and would never trail again. Wittenberg kept the score close, trimming the advantage to two points at 15-13 seven minutes into the opening period.

The Little Giants connected on 17-of-27 shots (63 percent) in the first half and built a 17-point lead with 6:26 left in the first half. But a 19-6 run by Wittenberg cut that lead to four points at 42-38 at halftime.

Wabash built onto its lead at the start of the second half.
Jesse Hall hit a pair of three-point baskets and
Tyler Watson grabbed a Wittenberg turnover forced by
Jack Davidson and raced the length of the floor to score two of his 13 points. Hall's second triple put the Little Giants up by 10 in the first 90 seconds of the final period.

The lead stayed at 10 points for Wabash until the Little Giants produced a 10-2 run over a two-minute span midway through the period to go in front 78-58. Wittenberg would never get closer than 19 points the rest of the way as Wabash poured on the offense and shot 19-of-30 from the field (63.3 percent) and eventually led by as many as 30 points before taking the 28-point victory.

Davidson led Wabash with 24 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Kellen Schreiber and
Ahmoni Jones each scored 16 points. Jones also snared seven rebounds, one of three Little Giants to grab seven boards in the game. Watson closed in on a triple-double for the day, scoring 16 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and handing out eight assists. Hall also finished with seven rebounds and scored 12 points.
Edreece Redmond scored a career-best 12 points as well for Wabash.

Landon Martin led Wittenberg with 21 points. James Johnson finished with 16 for the Tigers.

The 101 points are the most scored by Wabash in a game against Wittenberg and are the most points scored versus the Tigers since a 96-83 win at home in 2019. It is also the most points scored in an NCAC game by the Little Giants since putting up 110- in an overtime loss at DePauw in 2016.

Wabash will take the week to prepare for final exams before traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday, December 19 for a 3 p.m. game against Mount St. Joseph University.
