Schreiber's Double-Double Sends Wabash To 10-Point Win

Kellen Schreiber scored a career-high 28 points to go with 10 rebounds to lead Wabash to a 65-55 home victory Thursday night over Ohio Wesleyan University.

Schreiber recorded his fourth career double-double and second of the season with the effort. He tallied 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds at Denison earlier this year. The victory also extended the Little Giants' home winning streak to three.

The junior got off to a bit of a slow start offensively, as did both teams overall. Schreiber scored only six points in the first half. Wabash (4-4) limited Ohio Wesleyan (3-4) to 9-of-29 shooting for 31 percent and a total of 25 points. The Little Giants finished with a better effort from the field in the first half at 43 percent but only scored 10 baskets on 23 attempts for a total of 25 points.

The Wabash offense came to life in the second half. The Little Giants continue to push the ball inside, finding Schreiber for 22 points over the final 20 minutes. Wabash as a team hit 13-of-24 attempts for 54.2 percent. The Little Giants only attempted four three-point shots in the final period and scored 22 of their 40 points in the paint.

With the score tied at 25-25 at the half, Wabash made short 4-0 run after the Battling Bishops took a one-point lead to open the second period. Tyler Watson, who finished with 16 points and five assists, hit a pair of free throws two minutes into the second half to put Wabash in front by three at 29-26.

The Little Giants would never trail again in the contest, boosting their lead to as many as 10 points at 41-31 with 12:36 remaining. Ohio Wesleyan cut the lead to four points at 46-42 with 8:09 left to play in the game. Wabash responded with a basket from Watson followed by another from Schreiber, who then scored again and added a free throw to push the lead to 11 points at 53-42. Another Schreiber basket with 5:25 left to play to complete a 7-0 run by the junior lifted Wabash to a 55-42 lead.

Wabash held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the half. The Little Giants traded free throws with OWU down the stretch before settling for the 10-point victory.

Wabash shot 23-of-47 from the field (48.9 percent) for the game and recorded 40 rebounds. The Little Giants held Ohio Wesleyan to 18-of-54 shooting (33.3 percent) and only 4-of-22 from three-point range. The Battling Bishops grabbed 29 rebounds.

Zane Ries paced the Battling Bishops with 19 points.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio. Live coverage will be available at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/owu/.
