Wabash swept both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Goodrich Ballpark from visiting Spalding University. The Little Giants won game one 5-3 before taking an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

Wabash (3-4) answered the visiting Golden Eagles (5-4) each time they scored in the opening contest. Spalding picked up a run in the fourth inning of game one before the Little Giants answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Canton Terry delivered a two-out double to left center that plated
Liam Patton and
Andrew Jumonville to give Wabash the 2-1 lead.
Cameron Martin added another run in the fifth inning with an RBI single to bring home
Cole Vassilo to put the Little Giants up 3-1.

Spalding rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to even the score at 3-3. Vassilo provided the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to left field to bring home pinch-runner
Reece Bauer. Martin brought in an insurance run with an RBI single up the middle to drive in
Sean Smith for a 5-3 lead.

That was all the offense
Kase Lawson would need to pick up his first win of the season on the mound. Lawson pitched 6-1/3 innings, scattering six hits and allowing one earned run with four strikeouts and one walk. Erik Lakomek came on in the seventh inning to retire the final two batters to earn his first save of the season.

Wabash jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over Spalding in game two. The Little Giants picked up a run on an RBI single from
AJ Reid in the first inning. Vassilo drove another run on a fielder's choice before Smith brought in the third run with a single through the right side to cap the three-run first inning. The Golden Eagles scored a run in the third, but a two-run double off the bat of catcher
Drew Prather expanded the Wabash lead to 5-2.

Starting pitcher
Tyler Dearing held Spalding to three earned runs over five innings to pick up his first win of the season on the mound. Dearing allowed four hits and five walks to go with two strikeouts.
Jacob Bishop pitched an inning of setup work, giving up one unearned run on one hit and three walks.
Tavic Simmons pitched the final three innings of scoreless baseball, scattering three hits with one walk while striking out two batters to earn his first career save.

Wabash added three more runs with two RBI by Vassilo and one from Prather to wrap up the game two victory. Vassilo finished the day with four RBI in the two games and recorded one of two extra-base hits in the game for the Little Giants. Terry and Martin each collected two RBI. Reid led the offense with three hits in seven at bats. Â

Wabash will face the third-ranked North Central College Cardinals Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Grand Park Sports Campus. The game is scheduled to be played on Diamond #5.
