Wabash Completes Series Sweep With Sunday Doubleheader Wins

Wabash erupted for 39 runs over 14 innings on Sunday to complete a four-game series sweep of Trine University. The Little Giants won both games of Sunday's home doubleheader by scores of 20-2 and 19-9.
 
Wabash (7-5) scored 20 runs on 16 hits in Sunday's opener to lift starting pitcher Dylan Scheid to his second win of the season. The left-hander pitched seven innings and struck out 11 batters. He limited Trine to two runs on four hits and two walks. Sam Phillips pitched the final two innings of relief.
 
Austin Simmers and Andrew Jumonville collected three hits apiece. Jumonville added three RBI and scored four runs. AJ Reid produced four RBI on two hits. The Little Giants pounded out 16 hits in the win.
 
One of the biggest blows came in the sixth inning. Junior Will Lillis enter the game as a pinch hitter and promptly drilled the second pitch he saw over the left field fence for his first career hit and RBI. He finished the game with four RBI in two at bats.
 
Wabash sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in each of the first two innings of game two. The Little Giants churned out 18 hits and eight walks in the series finale. Cole Vassilo led the team by going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Canton Terry and Jumonville each also produced three RBI. Brayden Lentz crushed his first home run over the right field fence in the sixth inning for a two-RBI performance. Blake Juerling also collected two RBI for Wabash.
 
Sean Smith earned the victory on the mound, working four of the seven innings on the mound for Wabash. He scattered six hits and three walks. Derek Haslett pitched the final three innings to earn his first save.
 
Wabash continues its home stand with a pair of games scheduled for Saturday, March 27 against Washington University – St. Louis.
