Sinovic's Return Highlights A Wabash Home Win Over Allegheny

Little Giants open new Little Giant Stadium with eight-point win.

A two-point defensive extra point highlighted a 23-point third quarter for the Wabash football team and sent the Little Giants to a 36-28 Homecoming and North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Allegheny College.

The game was the first played in the $13 million Little Giant Stadium. A crowd of 3,650 cheered Wabash (3-0, 2-0 NCAC) to a home victory over Allegheny (1-2, 0-2 NCAC).

Wabash trailed 7-6 at halftime before scoring a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to move in front of the Gators 20-14. Allegheny tied the game at 20-20 with 4:48 remaining in the third on a touchdown but the extra point attempt was blocked by Wabash's Kamron Ferguson. Sean Sinovic grabbed the football in the end zone and raced to the other end of the field to score a two-point defensive conversion to put Wabash back in front 22-20.

The defensive conversion was the first by a Wabash player since 2011 and only the third in school history since the rule change allowed defenses to score on an extra-point attempt.

Wabash scored a final touchdown in the third on a quarterback sneak by Liam Thompson and added another score in the opening minutes of the fourth period to jump in front 36-20. The Gators scored a late touchdown before Wabash ran out the final minutes of the clock.

Heisman Skeens put Wabash in front in the second period when he caught a pass near midfield and raced into the end zone for a 70-yard score to put the Little Giants in front 6-0. The Gators moved in front 7-6 late in the second on a 10-yard TD pass. Cade Campbell put Wabash back in front with a two-yard run to open the third quarter. Allegheny responded with a seven-play, 66-yard drive to regain the lead at 14-13.

Quarterback Liam Thompson connected with Jacob Riddle for his second touchdown pass of the game. Thompson finished with 291 yards passing, completing 15-of-29 passes with three touchdowns. Riddle's TD reception put Wabash in front 20-14 but Allegheny scored again to tie the game and set up Sinovic's heroics.

Thompson added a one-yard touchdown run in the closing seconds of the third period and connected with Derek Allen on a 66-yard TD pass in the fourth.

Wabash accounted for 519 yards of total offense by adding 228 rushing yards to the 291 passing effort. Donovan Snyder carried the ball 23 times for a career-best 155 yards, giving him back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time in his career. Cooper Sullivan caught four passes for 45 yards for the Little Giants. Allen led the team with 89 receiving yards and one TD on two total catches.

Allegheny attempted 73 passes in the game for 348 yards and two TDs. The Gators ran only 19 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Vaughn Taylor led the Wabash defense with 12 tackles, including one tackle for a loss. Ferguson made 10 tackles to go with his blocked kick attempt. Will Netting added nine stops. Seth Buresh recorded two sacks for three yards.

Wabash is off next weekend before traveling to Granville, Ohio, October 2 for a 3 p.m. contest at Denison University.
