Wabash Spoils Witt Homecoming With 42-35 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio --Five different players reached the end zone, led by two scores from Cade Campbell, as Wabash defeated Wittenberg 42-35 on Saturday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field to spoil the Tigers' Homecoming weekend.

The Little Giants improved to 3-2 on the year and 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers fell to 2-2 and 2-1.

Liam Thompson led Wabash's passing attack with 434 yards through the air, tossing four touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 22 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Donovan Snyder led all Little Giant rushers with 68 yards in the contest. Snyder also added 36 receiving yards. Campbell also added 30 yards and one touchdown on 28-yard run to average 15 yards per carry, as well as 74 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Cooper Sullivan pulled in 11 catches for 123 yards and one score. Penn Stoller made his presence felt in the passing game, recording six receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. The Little Giants also added 54 yards receiving from Derek Allen Jr. in the game.

Jamari Washington showed out for the Wabash defense, recording five tackles, 1.0 TFL, one sack, and one recovered fumble. Brock Robertson added six tackles, 0.5 TFL, and one interception and Team had in the win.

The Little Giants won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with Wabash turning those takeaways into seven points. Wabash also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 553 total yards, 119 on the ground and 434 through the air, while averaging 7.1 yards per play and out-gaining Wittenberg. Wabash grabbed a 7-0 lead over Wittenberg after scoring the game's first points on the opening drive of the game.Wittenberg then tied things up at 7-7 before the Little Giants responded with a 33-yard touchdown reception from to Sullivan to jump back in front 14-7.

After Wittenberg scored to take a 21-14 lead, Wabash responded with a touchdown to even things up at 21-21.The Little Giants then kept the momentum going with a 10-yard touchdown run from Thompson to grab a 28-21 lead.

Wittenberg scored to tie the game at 28-28 before Wabash jumped back ahead with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Heisman Skeens to make the count 35-28 at the 8:38 mark in the fourth quarter.The Little Giants kept scoring, tacking on a touchdown on a 66-yard TD pass to Campbell to extend their advantage to 42-28. Wittenberg added a final score with five minutes remaining before Wabash closed out the game for the win.
