CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN --The Wabash basketball team held Maryville (TN) to just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-12 shooting performance on the way to an 84-74 win over the Scots at home Saturday in the final game of the 2022 Great Lakes Invitational.
The Little Giants (4-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Edreece Redmond, who had a career-high 22 points. Champ McCorkle tacked on 15 points, and Ahmoni Jones chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds to earn a place on the All-Invitational Team for the second consecutive season. Sam Comer scored 13 points and gave out six assists to go with six rebounds in the win.
The Wabash offense was potent from downtown, knocking down ten threes on 23 attempts. Redmond hit four treys for the Little Giants in the contest.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 32-29 advantage, Wabash went on a 5-0 run with 4:58 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Vinny Buccilla, to increase its lead to 37-29. The Little Giants added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 45-36 advantage. Wabash relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 45 points.
Wabash kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Sam Comer's three, to grow the lead to 61-49 with 13:57 to go in the contest. The Scots narrowed the margin to seven points with 7:25 remaining, but the Little Giants still cruised for the 84-74 win.
