TERRE HAUTE, IN --Â Five Little Giants put up double-digit points to guide Wabash to an 80-68 victory at Rose-Hulman Tuesday evening.
The Little Giants (8-3) were led by Edreece Redmond, who had 15 points and two steals. Avery Beaver added 14 points off the bench, and Gavin Schippert helped out with 12 points. Styles McCorkle added 11 points, and Vinny Buccilla scored 10 points.
After falling behind 18-13, Wabash went on an 11-0 run with 8:48 left in the first half, culminating in a three-point basket from Styles McCorkle to take a 24-18 lead. Rose-Hulman (5-6) closed the gap to five points at 24-19 with 5:20 remaining in the half.Â
The Little Giants pushed the lead back up to as many as 12 points at 34-22in the closing minutes of the period before settling for a 34-29 halftime advantage. Wabash relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 34 points.
Wabash kept its lead intact throughout the second half, eventually holding a 53-58 midway through the final period. The Little Giants used a 9-0 run, finished off by Beaver's jumper, to grow the lead to 62-48 with 8:11 to go in the contest. The Engineers narrowed the margin to four points at 65-61 with 5:01 left on the clock. Wabash answered with back-to-back baskets from Champ McCorkle and another from Schippert to push the advantage back to ten points at 71-61 with 2:59 remaining in the game. Rose never got closer than eight points in the final three minutes as Wabash closed out the game for the 80-68 win. Wabash capitalized on seven Rose-Hulman turnovers in the second period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers. The Little Giants forced ten turnovers in the game and scored 18 points overall on the Fightin' Engineer's miscues.
The Wabash offense was very productive from beyond the arc, knocking down ten threes on 21 attempts. Beaver was the most prolific shooter for the Little Giants, draining four treys in the contest.
