Wabash mounted a furious rally in the third set of its opening home volleyball match of the 2022 season. The Little Giants were unable to score the set point in a 3-0 loss to the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Wabash (2-4) and IIT (4-2) played through nine ties and four lead changes in the final set of the night. The Little Giants rallied after Illinois Tech moved to match point at 24-20 to tie the score at 24-24. Wabash took a one-point lead four times but could not put the set-winner away before the Scarlet Hawks three consecutive points to close out the set at 31-29 to win the match.

The Little Giants never led in the first set, eventually losing by a score of 25-14, but rallied in the second set to force nine ties and three lead changes. Wabash claimed a 7-6 lead in the early going before Illinois Tech moved back in front. The Little Giants tied the score at 14-14 before Illinois Tech took its final lead of the set to go on a take a 25-18 victory with a 2-set to none lead.

Jackson Leeper led Wabash with eight kills in the match.
Will Beikes recorded 20 assists.
Luis Rivera led the team with seven digs and had a .905 reception percentage.
Carson Meadors finished with a .938 reception percentage to lead the Little Giants in that category.

Wabash returns to action on Sunday. The Little Giants will compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Showdown with Wittenberg and Hiram in Springfield, Ohio. Wabash plays Hiram at 2 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. match versus the host Tigers. Â
