Wabash Dominates Final Three Periods In Home Lacrosse Win Over Mount St. Joseph

Wabash scored seven goals in the third period while holding Mount St. Joseph scoreless in Saturday's home opener for the Little Giant lacrosse team. Wabash outscored the visiting Lions 16-2 in the final 37 minutes of the game to claim a 19-6 victory and open the season with a spotless 2-0 record.
 
Both teams scored three goals in the opening period. Mount St. Joseph (0-2) took a 4-3 lead in the first three minutes of the second period before the Wabash offensive onslaught began. Tanner Simmons took a pass from Ethan Stonis and scored to even the contest at 4-4. Stonis added his own goal in the final two minutes of the first half to put the Little Giants in front 5-6. Anthony Nguyen added the first of his three goals in the final minute of the half to put Wabash in front 6-4 at the break.
 
Nguyen scored twice in the seven-goal third period for Wabash. Artie Rogers, Jeremiah Eaton, Joseph Plencner, Caulin Fitzgerald each added goals to give the Little Giants a 13-4 lead heading into the final period of play.
 
Simmons opened up the scoring for Wabash in the fourth period with his second goal. Stonis scored three more times to give him a team-high five goals on the day. Josh Taylor and Fitzgerald also scored in the fourth to provide the final tally for the Little Giants.
 
Plencner and Nguyen each scored three goals in addition to the five by Stonis. Rogers, Simmons, and Fitzgerald each picked up two goals. Eaton and Taylor finished with one goal apiece. Rogers handed out five assists to lead the Little Giants in that category.
 
AJ Miller caused five turnovers for Wabash. Luka DiFilippo won 19 of his 25 appearances and led the Little Giants with 13 ground balls. Matthew Hendrick made three saves on the day.
 
Wabash will play Alma College on Wednesday, February 23 at 4 p.m. at Fisher Field.
