Davidson's Season High Sends Wabash To 14th Consecutive Win

Jack Davidson scored a season-best 35 points to help Wabash win its 14th consecutive game with an 88-74 home victory over Ohio Wesleyan University Wednesday evening.

The victory was the 12th straight North Coast Athletic Conference win for the Little Giants (18-3, 13-1 NCAC) since an early-season loss at home to Oberlin. That eclipsed the previous Wabash record of 11 consecutive NCAC victories set when the 2018-19 team opened with 11 NCAC wins.

Wabash would have to overcome some early shooting woes to capture its 14th consecutive win. The Little Giants raced out to a 13-7 lead after four minutes of action before Ohio Wesleyan (13-9, 10-5 NCAC) mounted a 7-0 scoring run to tie the score at 13-13 with 13:10 remaining in the opening half.

Ohio Wesleyan took a two-point lead on a basket by Jack Clement to make it a 19-17 contest midway through the first half. Wabash answered with a 17-5 run over the next six minutes. The Little Giants pushed the lead to 12 points at halftime, 42-30, despite shooting only 50 percent from the free throw line (4-of-8) for the period.

Wabash got a pair of free throws from Edreece Redmond and a three-pointer from Tyler Watson to maintain the 12-point lead before Davidson exploded offensively. The senior scored the next 11 points for the Little Giants in response to scoring opportunities by the Battling Bishops. Jesse Hall ended Davidson's run with a three-point basket to push the Wabash lead to 15 points at 60-45 with 13:29 remaining in the game.

Ohio Wesleyan drew as close as six points with 8:57 left in the second half. Wabash extended its 66-60 lead 11 points at 71-60 with 7:25 remaining. The Little Giants held OWU scoreless over the final 2:07 of the game, outscoring the visitors 6-0 to secure the 14-point victory.

Watson scored 16 points and gave out a team-best six assists for Wabash in the victory to go with the 35-point, four-assists effort from Davidson. Davidson also led Wabash with nine rebounds. Hall added 13 points for the Little Giants.

Clement led Ohio Wesleyan with 23 points. Henry Hinklie finished with 17 points. Nick Carlson chipped in with 10 points.

Wabash finished the game 28-of-62 from the field for 46.8 percent shooting. The Little Giants went 12-of-30 from three-point range (40 percent) and improved to 18-of-24 from the free throw line for 75 percent for the game.   Ohio Wesleyan shot 49.1 percent from the field (27-of-55) but connected on only 5 of 21 three-point tries (23.8 percent). The Bishops made 15-of-23 free throws (65.2 percent).

Wabash begins a two-game road NCAC road trip this Saturday. The Little Giants will play The College of Wooster on Saturday, February 12, at 2 p.m.  Wabash heads to DePauw the following Wednesday before closing out the regular season at home against Kenyon on February 19.
