Volleyball Battles In MCVL Match At Olivet

The Wabash College volleyball team came up on the short end of a back-and-forth Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match at Olivet College Friday evening. The Little Giants rallied from a first-set loss to even the contest at a set apiece before losing by a final score of 3-1.
 
Wabash (3-17, 0-7 MCVL) stayed close to Olivet (5-13, 1-6 MCVL) in the opening set but was unable to capture the lead. The Little Giants got as close at two points from tying the score on five different occasions before taking a 25-18 loss in the opening set.
 
Wabash trailed in the early moments of the second set before going on a three-point scoring swing led by kills from Luke Davis and Ricky Sessions to even the score at 7-7. Julian Alvizo served four consecutive points for the Little Giants to help Wabash take a 9-7 lead it never relinquished. Olivet cut the advantage to one point at 17-16 before Jackson Leeper put away a kill on a set from Will Beikes. The host Comets cut the lead back to one point, but Evan Nichols turned in back-to-back kills on passes from Beikes to extend the lead back to three points at 21-18. Wabash went on to claim the set by a score of 25-20 and even the overall score at 1-1.
 
Both teams traded leads in the third set with Wabash eventually claiming a one-point advantage at 19-18. Olivet rallied to take a 21-19 lead and held the advantage for the remainder of the set to take a 25-22 victory and 2-set to one lead for the match.
 
Olivet raced out to a five-point lead in the decisive fourth set before Wabash produced its only rally and cut the Comets' lead to one point at 14-13. The Little Giants could not even the score as Olivet claimed the 25-21 victory to close out the 4-1 victory.
 
Sessions and Leeper paced Wabash with 12 kills apiece. Davis finished with 11 kills. Leeper turned in an impressive .647 attack percentage for the evening. Beikes scored 42 assists over the four sets. Davis led Wabash with 11 digs while Sessions added 10 digs. Leeper finished with one solo block and seven block assists in the contest.
 
Wabash closes out the 2022 season on Saturday with an 11 a.m. MCVL match at Adrian College.
