Wabash opened the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its season against the Allegheny College Gators Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants pounded out 12 hits in game one but came up shorts in an 8-3 loss before losing the second game of the doubleheader 11-0 in seven innings.

Wabash (12-5, 0-2 NCAC) had opportunities to add to its three-run total in game one. The Little Giants stranded 13 baserunners, including a bases-loaded situation with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wabash put together three consecutive singles to open the inning but followed with a pair of strikeouts and a fly out to end the inning without scoring a run.

Allegheny (14-4, 2-0 NCAC) scored an unearned run off starter
Dylan Scheid in the first inning before Wabash tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning on an RBI single by
Kamden Earley. The Gators regained the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning before adding another three runs in the fifth. Â
Liam Patton added an RBI single to plate a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Allegheny lead to 8-2.
Adam Oxley scored
AJ Reid with an RBI single for the Little Giants' last run in the ninth inning for an 8-3 final result.

Earley collected three of the Little Giants' 12 hits in the game. Patton finished with two hits, as did
Brayden Lentz and
Reece Bauer. Scheid suffered his first loss of the season, working 4-2/3 innings of four-hit baseball. He surrendered three earned runs and walked five batters to go with three strikeouts.

Wabash was held to three hits over seven innings in the nightcap while the Gators took advantage of six hits combined with five Little Giant errors to score 11 runs. Allegheny scored four runs in the first inning. The Gators added five runs without the benefit of a hit in the fourth inning as Wabash gave away baserunners on two hit batsmen, a walk, and three errors.

Jacob Bishop took the loss as the Little Giants' starter. He pitched 3-1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters.

Austin Simmers, Earley, and Oxley managed the only hits for Wabash in the contest.

The Little Giants look to rebound on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Wittenberg University beginning at noon.
