Austin Simmers celebrated Senior Day for the Wabash baseball team Sunday by breaking the single-season school record for steals in the Little Giants' season-ending doubleheader against Rose-Hulman. The Little Giants lost both games by scores of 10-4 and 10-3.

Simmers swiped a pair of bases in game one and added two more in the second game. His first stolen base in game two tied the decades-old record of 30 stolen bases set by Jerry Long in 1994. Simmers hit a single to left in the sixth inning of game two, then stole second to pick up his 31
st of the season in 33 attempts. Simmers ended his career with 56 stolen bases to finish in a tie for third on the all-time Wabash list.

The Little Giants took a 1-0 lead in game one on a sacrifice fly by
AJ Reid. Wabash jumped back in front 3-1 thanks to a two-run third inning. Simmers scored the first run from third on a wild pitch. The Little Giants added a second run on a double steal with Reid swiping second and
Camden Scheidt racing home with the third run of the game.

Wabash held the lead until the eighth inning when Rose-Hulman (25-11) exploded for eight runs to put the game away. The Little Giants scored a run in the bottom of the eighth when an error allowed Reid to score to cut the lead to 9-4. The Fightin' Engineers added another run in the ninth inning for the 10-4 final.

Scheidt went 3-for-4 from the plate in game one and added the lone RBI for Wabash. Reid added the only other hit for the Little Giants.

Simmons pitched 6-2/3 innings as the Wabash starter. He scattered seven hits and a walk while limiting Rose to one earned run. Reid took the loss after pitching two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Leo Dilts closed out the game on the mound for Wabash.

The Little Giants took a 2-0 lead in game two thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Evan Neukam in the first inning and an RBI single off the bat of Reid in the third inning. Rose answered with a run in the fourth then opened up a 5-2 lead with a four-run fifth inning. The Engineers scored three more runs in the eighth to take a 10-2 lead.

Scheidt provided the final run of the season for Wabash with a sacrifice fly to score Valero in the eighth for the final seven-run margin.

Simmers, Reid, and Valero each collected two hits in the season finale. Wabash finished the game with 10 hits overall.

Braeden Bryant suffered the loss for the Little Giants. He pitched 4-1/3 innings in his final start of the season. He game up three runs on three hits and six walks against six strikeouts.
Sam Benedict pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief and allowed three hits.

Wabash finished the season with a record of 20-19.
