Late Score Leads Wabash Past Hampden-Sydney

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana --Wabash put together a nine-play, 63-yard drive, culminating in a 15-yard rushing touchdown from with :46 remaining in the ballgame to give Wabash College a 52-48 win over Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon at Little Giant Stadium.

The victory improved Wabash's record to 1-0 on the season while the HSC fell to 0-1.

Liam Thompson led Wabash's passing attack with a career-high 380 yards through the air, tossing four touchdowns without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added 102 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

In addition to Thompson's effort, Cade Campbell paced the Wabash rushing attack by accumulating 69 yards over the course of the game, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Donovan Snyder chipped in with 61 yards and one touchdown as well.

Derek Allen Jr. reeled in seven catches for 160 yards and three scores. Jacob Riddle got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 53 yards.

Garrett Mroz showed out for the Wabash defense, collecting three tackles and one interception. Steven Thomas added eight tackles, 3.0 TFL, and one sack and Cade Lansdell had seven tackles, 2.5 TFL, and 1.5 sacks in the win.

Wabash won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing one turnover while avoiding any giveaways. Wabash also had an outstanding day offensively, logging 663 total yards, 283 on the ground and 380 through the air, while averaging 7.5 yards per play and out-gaining Hampden-Sydney. The Wabash offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 63.2 percent of third-down attempts going 12-for-19 on the day. The WAB also went 2-for-3 on fourth down.

Defensively, Wabash held up fairly well against the Hampden-Sydney rushing attack, holding the Tigers to 144 yards on the ground. The Wabash defense disrupted Hampden-Sydney's backfield by piling up four sacks and 11 total tackles for loss.

After Hampden-Sydney rallied to take the lead, Wabash got back on top with a touchdown to take control for good at 52-48 with :46 left in the fourth quarter. Snyder powered in a 15-yard touchdown run to end a nine-play, 63-yard drive.
