Red-Hot Shooting Sends Wabash To Fourth Straight Win Over Wooster

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – Wabash shot 62 percent from the field and 52 percent from three-point range for the game to capture an 83-68 home victory over The College of Wooster Fighting Scots. The win marked the fourth consecutive victory by the Little Giants over Wooster and put the Little Giants in a three-way tie with the Scots and Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings.

The Little Giants (11-3, 4-1 NCAC) blistered the nets in the second half. Wabash connected on 16-of-23 shots from the field (69.6 percent) over the final 20 minutes, including a 7-of-10 effort from three-point range for 70 percent shooting.
Wabash held a 30-29 halftime lead thanks to its three-point shooting. The Little Giants knocked down four long-range shots to account for 12 of its 30 first-half points. Wooster (10-3, 4-1 NCAC) connected on only two of its eight three-point tries while shooting 13-of-27 from the field overall for the half.

The Scots took the early second-half lead on a basket from Najee Hardaway before the Wabash offense caught fire. The Little Giants made four consecutive baskets, beginning with a three-pointers from Ahmoni Jones. Vinny Buccilla and Edreece Redmond before Sam Comer finished off the series with a turnaround jumper in the lane to give Wabash a six-point lead at 41-35 with 17:17 on the game clock. The Little Giants added another three-pointer from Buccilla and a put-back basket and free throw from Gavin Schippert to go up 47-35. Jones capped a 14-0 scoring run with another long-range jumper to push the lead to 50-35 at the 13:10 mark. Wabash's defense limited Wooster to 2-of-7 shooting from the field to open the final period to help the Little Giants open up the 15-point advantage.

Wabash had five players score in double figures, led by Avery Beaver, who had 18 points. Buccilla added 16 points by going 6-6 from the field, including a 4-for-4 three-point shooting effort. He also handed out a team-high four assists. Edreece Redmond scored 14 points. Jones chipped in 13 points, and Comer finished with 12 points and three assists.

Wabash grabbed 26 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Wooster's 23, led by five boards from Schippert and Buccilla.

Wabash forced 13 Wooster turnovers. The Little Giants turned those takeaways into 12 points on the offensive end of the floor. Styles McCorkle led the way individually with two steals.

Wabash got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 53 total points.

» Wabash defeated Wooster three times during the 2021-2022 season with wins in both regular-season games and an 85-84 overtime win in the championship game of the 2022 NCAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Wittenberg is the last team to claim four consecutive victories over the Scots, with sweeps in the 1995-96 and 1996-97 seasons.
» Wabash missed its first four free throws of the game before hitting 20 of the next 22 attempts. The Little Giant shot 20-of-26 from the line for 76.9 percent
