The Wabash College soccer team scored early and often as
Jose Escalante recorded a hat trick in the Little Giants' 5-0 North Coast Athletic Conference home win Saturday over Oberlin to complete the 2023 season.
Wabash (6-7-4, 2-5-1 NCAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Escalante scored his seventh goal of the season off a pass from
Bruno Zamora. One minute later, Escalante found the back of the net for his second goal of the match, with
Bryce Kinnaman picking up the assist.
Once again, the Little Giants only needed a minute of play before adding to their lead. Escalante took a penalty kick for Wabash in the 16th minute and scored his team-leading ninth goal of the year to put the Little Giants in front 3-0.
That's where the score remained through halftime until
Myles Bernat scored his first goal of the season and second of his career in the 56th minute to put Wabash in front 4-0.
Alfredo Campos added the final goal of the match, with
Hayden Eaton picking up the assist in the 80th minute for the 5-0 victory.
Fernando Ramos saved two shots on goal while facing ten total shots from Oberlin (3-8-6, 1-4-3 NCAC). Wabash finished the match with 15 total shots and nine shots on goal. The shutout was the fifth of the season by Ramos.
