Wabash Opens NCAC Action With Doubleheader Losses At Denison

Wabash opened the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its 2023 schedule against the 15th-ranked Denison University Big Red in Granville, Ohio. The Little Giants lost both games of the Sunday doubleheader, dropping a 10-4 decision in game one before an 11-1 loss in the nightcap.
 
GAME 1 | Denison 10, Wabash 4
AJ Reid racked up four hits the opening game of the doublheader. Reid had a double and two RBI as part of his four-hit effort.
 
Kamden Earley also put together a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and an RBI. Benjamin Henke collected two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
 
Derek Haslett (3-2) got the ball to start for Wabash (14-9, 0-2 NCAC) and took the loss. Aidan McConnell was a bright spot for the Little Giants, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing no hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Little Giants were trailing 6-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Reid came across to score Wabash's lone run for the inning and get them on the board.
 
The Little Giants kept the Big Red off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. Wabash scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Reid, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Big Red.
 
Denison expanded their lead to 9-2 before the Wabash offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 9-4 in the seventh. The Little Giants produced a two-run frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from Earley. The Little Giants could not get any closer, as Denison added one run to their tally on the way to a 10-4 final.
