Little Giants Split With Oberlin After Sunday Loss

Wabash delivered a three-run fifth inning and added another run in the sixth, but a six-run output by visiting Oberlin in the seventh and eighth innings lifted the visitors past the host Little Giants 12-8 in Sunday's North Coast Athletic Conference contest to close out the two-game series between the teams.

Wabash (22-14, 6-6 NCAC) trailed Oberlin (10-20, 3-9 NCAC) 6-5 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. A one-out walk to Kamden Earley and a single by Will Phillips set the table for Brayden Lentz. The senior belted a three-run homer to right field for his second home run of the season to give the Little Giants a 7-6 advantage. Camden Scheidt delivered an RBI single in the sixth to extend the lead to 8-6.

Wabash maintained the two-run lead entering the seventh inning before a leadoff triple for the Yeomen sparked the visitors' comeback effort. Oberlin cut the lead to 8-7 on a groundout to short, then capitalized on five hits in the eighth to score five runs to take a 12-8 lead. The big blow came on a three-run blast from Jake Blozy with two outs in the inning.

Liam Patton led the way offensively for the Little Giants, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Brayden Lentz also put together a noteworthy performance at the dish, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and three RBI. Camden Scheidt also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Wabash with a double and an RBI.

Caleb Everson (4-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Wabash. The freshman pitched seven innings and scattered 14 hits with no walks. He struck out one batter. Braeden Bryant was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1-1/3 shutout innings without allowing a hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Scheidt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash and get them on the board.

The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Little Giants again put runs on the scoreboard. Wabash pushed across a run on Benjamin Henke's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Little Giants.

Wabash's lead had evaporated when the third inning arrived and turned into a 4-2 Oberlin advantage when the Little Giants evened up the game at four. The Little Giants added two to their tally on Patton's two-run homer, his fourth of the season.

The Yeomen broke up the tie and grabbed the lead heading into the fifth inning when Wabash got back on the board. The inning resulted in three runs for the Little Giants, all scoring on a three-run homer off the bat of Lentz.

The Little Giants kept Oberlin off the board before expanding their lead to 8-6 the following inning. Wabash scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Scheidt. The Little Giants could not hold the lead, as Oberlin scored six times over the remaining three innings to grab the 12-8 win.
