Little Giants Split Baseball Season Opener In Westfield

Wabash opened the 2024 college baseball season with two games at the Grand Park facility in Westfield, Indiana. The Little Giants split with a 15-2 victory over Manchester University in seven innings in the first contest followed by a 17-7 loss in eight innings in the nightcap.
 
GAME ONE – Wabash 15, Manchester 2 (7 innings)
 
Camden Scheidt racked up four RBIs to help power the Wabash (1-1) over the Manchester University Spartans 15-2 on Sunday.

Caleb Everson (1-0) got the win for Wabash (1-0). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out four. Ethan Kimmerle also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

Scheidt went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk in addition to his four RBIs for the Little Giants. Michael Galanos compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Nick Logan also chipped in for Wabash, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Reece Bauer came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash and get it on the board.

The Spartans (0-1) failed to push any runs across before the Little Giants offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Wabash offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Scheidt, which brought the Little Giants' lead to 5-0.

Wabash held Manchester without a run before building their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning. The Little Giants scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Kamden Earley.

Wabash held the Spartans scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Little Giants scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Galanos, bringing the Wabash advantage to 7-0.

Manchester got within 7-2 until the Little Giants scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 15-2. The Wabash offense piled up eight runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of AJ Reid.

Wabash got three hits from Kamden Earley in a 17-7 loss to the Benedictine (IL) Eagles.

Braeden Bryant (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Wabash.

In addition to his three hits, Earley had three RBI to lead the Little Giants. Will Phillips compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. AJ Reid also contributed for Wabash, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Wabash got an RBI single from Earley, scoring Reid from second base.

The Little Giants deficit grew to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the second inning. Wabash picked up a run on Phillips' leadoff home run which tightened the Eagles lead to 3-2.

Benedictine built their lead to 11-2 before the Wabash offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 11-7 in the fifth. The Little Giants bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Earley. The Little Giants were unable to get any closer, as Benedictine (IL) added six runs to their tally on the way to a 17-7 final.
