GREENVILLE, Ill. – Wabash squandered a three-run lead in the ninth inning Tuesday, allowing Greenville University to force extra innings. The Little Giants surrendered a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 10
th inning in an 8-7 loss.
Senior third baseman
AJ Reid nearly hit for the cycle, collecting a single, triple, and home run, a walk, and two RBI for Wabash (6-6). The Little Giants held a 7-4 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning before Greenville (6-12) rallied for three runs in the ninth to tie the score at 7-7 to send the game into extra innings. The Panthers won the game on a walk-off home run by Rhett Pennington to earn the one-run win.
Freshman
Trey Pitcock (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Wabash and took the loss. Sophomore
Conner Stidham threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Nicklaus Wangler pitched 5.1 innings as the Little Giants' starter. He allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven.
