Little Giants Set New Single-Season Win Mark With 19-7 Victory At Hiram

The Wabash College lacrosse team set a new program high-water mark with its eighth win of the 2024 season with its 19-7 victory in North Coast Athletic Conference competition at Hiram Saturday afternoon. The eight wins surpassed the previous single-season best of seven set last year.

Quinn Fitzgerald scored seven goals for Wabash (8-4, 1-3 NCAC) to tie for the second-most goals scored in a single game by a Little Giant player. He holds the school record with a 13th-goal effort against Concordia University Chicago last year. Fitzgerald notched one of five Wabash goals in the first period of Saturday's contest to give the Little Giants a lead they would not relinquish.

Blake Stephens started the scoring for Wabash with a goal in the sixth minute of the game. Quinn Shefferly and Fitzgerald each scored in the first minutes, along with two goals from Nate Jones, for a 5-1 lead. Jones, Stephens, and Fitzgerald were joined by Artie Rogers, who had goals in the second period to put the Little Giants in front 9-3 at halftime.

Fitzgerald scored three more goals in the third period to go with goals from Jones, Sam Santiago, and Christian Dybedock. Will Sorg started the fourth-period scoring for Wabash to go with a goal from Kalesperis and two more from Fitzgerald for the 19-7 final score.

Stephens added two assists to the Little Giants' offensive totals. Jones, Dybedock, and Fitzgerald each tallied one assist.

Wabash outshot Hiram (4-8, 0-5 NCAC) 64-27 for the game. Colin Krekeler, the Little Giants' starting goalkeeper, made six saves and finished with a .600 save percentage in 43 minutes of work Saturday. Hayden Hicks played 17 minutes and made two saves. Luka DiFilippo won 12 faceoffs and snared a team-best five ground balls for Wabash in the victory. Shefferly added a team-best three caused turnovers to help the Little Giants finish with 17 for the game.

Wabash returns home to face arch-rival DePauw University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fischer Field.
