Little Giants Drop NCAC Doubleheader At Kenyon

Wabash rallied from a 5-2 deficit with four runs over three innings in game one Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Kenyon College. The Little Giants could not hold off the host Owls and eventually lost 7-6. Wabash lost game two to Kenyon 11-1 in seven innings.
 
GAME 1 | Kenyon 7, Wabash 6

Wabash (14-16, 3-7 NCAC) rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Kenyon (18-10, 5-3 NCAC) picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a one-run lead.
 
The Little Giants put the tying run at second base with no outs in the top of the ninth inning but could not even the score in the 7-6 loss.
 
Senior Kamden Earley hit two home runs as part of a three-hit game in the opening contest. Earley supplemented his two home runs with three RBIs. Senior AJ Reid went 3-for-4 with an RBI along with one walk. Freshman Will Fremion also helped out for the Little Giants, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.
 
Sophomore Dylan Haslett (1-2) took Wabash's loss on the mound. He pitched three innings in relief, scattering five hits while allowing two earned runs with a strikeout. Grant Stratton started and worked five innings while giving up seven hits and five earned runs. He walked two and struck out one batter.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Little Giants started their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Earley put Wabash on the board with a two-out solo home run.
 
Fremion came across to score the lone run of the second inning for Wabash to put the Little Giants up 2-0.
 
Wabash's lead had evaporated by the time the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 5-2 Kenyon advantage when the Little Giants cut that deficit to 5-4. The Little Giants added two to their tally on Earley's two-run homer to right.
 
The Little Giants scored one run in the sixth inning on an RBI single off the bat of Reid, tying the score at 5-5. That tie turned into a 6-5 Little Giants lead in the seventh. Fremion came across to score the lone run of the inning. The Little Giants could not hold the lead, as Kenyon scored two runs in the seventh inning to grab the 7-6 win.

Wabash was limited to one run on five hits in game two of the doubleheader in an 11-1 loss in seven innings.

Freshman Nicklaus Wangler (0-2) got the ball to start for Wabash (14-16, 3-7) and took the loss. Freshman Ethan Kimmerle was a bright spot for the Little Giants, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants were trailing 9-0 in the fourth inning when they scored their only run of the game. Senior Kamden Earley came across to score on a sacrifice fly from Evan Neukum. The Little Giants could not get any closer, as Kenyon added two runs to their tally on the way to an 11-1 final.
