Wabash Can't Overcome Oberlin In Saturday Road Loss

The Wabash College lacrosse team traveled to northeast Ohio to face the Oberlin College Yeomen in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants tallied seven goals in the contest but could not overcome an eight-goal third period by the host Yeomen in a 19-7 loss.

Wabash (8-6, 1-5 NCAC) got a goal from Quinn Fitzgerald in response to a pair of Oberlin (9-6, 3-4 NCAC) first-period goals. Artie Rogers added a second Little Giants goal to answer two more goals by the Yeomen for a 4-2 score in favor of the hosts heading into the second period.

Nate Jones cut the Oberlin lead to one goal by scoring in the third minute of the second period for a 4-3 score. Unfortunately, it was as close as Wabash would get for the remainder of the game. The Yeomen scored the final three goals of the period to take a 7-3 advantage into halftime. Oberlin scored the first four goals of the third period before Jake Pippen snapped the streak off an assist by Will Sorg. Sorg added a goal with four minutes left in the period to split up four more goals by the Yeomen. Sorg added a goal to start the fourth period, and Zade Kalesperis picked up the final Wabash goal with 4:21 left in the game in response to four Oberlin goals in the period.

Wabash put up 40 shots compared to 49 from Oberlin. Fitzgerald gave out three assists in addition to his first-period goal. Christian Dybedock racked up two assists, and Sorg finished with one helper. The Little Giants were successful on 12 of 14 clearing attempts and scored once on four man-up opportunities. Luca Flaim led Wabash with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Colin Krekeler recorded five saves in goal for the Little Giants. Reserve goalkeeper Hayden Hicks recorded two saves.
