Williams Named Wabash College Director of Strength And Conditioning

David Williams joins the Wabash College athletics department as the director of strength and conditioning for the Little Giants, Wabash Director of Athletics and Recreation Matt Tanney announced Wednesday.

"Coaches and scholar-athletes alike are excited for David's arrival to campus," Tanney said. "He brings extensive experience in designing strength and conditioning programs, in-depth knowledge of the latest trends in the field, and a data-centered approach that will elevate every aspect of sport performance at Wabash."

Williams brings 15 years of experience in the high school and collegiate level, as well as the professional sports world, as a strength and conditioning specialist to the College. He started as a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Central Florida in 2009 after a four-year playing career with the Knights as a defensive end. Williams became a personal fitness course instructor and graduate assistant in the human performance laboratory at UCF in 2011 before joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.

Williams spent four seasons with the Colts as the assistant strength and conditioning performance analyst, where he designed training programs for the players. The Colts improved from 2-14 to 11-5 and made a playoff appearance in Williams' first season with the team.

Williams joined the Indiana Fever in 2016 as the director of strength and conditioning, developing training plans for the players while working with the athletic training staff to maximize performance. He became a strength and conditioning coach at Ascension St. Vincent Sports Performance in 2016, serving as the director of sports performance at Zionsville High School, where he managed the training of over 300 athletes in various sports, monitored athlete workload, and conducted performance research.

"When I started this strength and conditioning journey, I knew I wanted to work with top-level athletes," Williams said. "I wanted to see them grow and flourish while building a relationship with them. Wabash College fits that bill. Working with the type of student-athletes that play for Wabash, along with the great history and tradition of the athletics program, shows that dream still exists."

Williams earned a bachelor of science degree at Central Florida in 2010 and a master of science degree in 2012. He is a registered and certified strength and conditioning coach and holds certifications as a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, and USA Weightlifting.

He begins his duties at Wabash immediately.
