Crawfordsville, Ind. — Luke Adams caught three touchdown passes, including the eventual game-winning score with 5:30 remaining in the game, and
Mike Holsclaw sealed the victory with a late interception as Wabash College defeated Wittenberg University 28–21 on Saturday afternoon at Little Giant Stadium in North Coast Athletic Conference competition. The win extended the Little Giants' streak to four straight over the Tigers.
Wabash (7–1, 5–1 NCAC) erased a 14–0 deficit to rally for the second consecutive year against Wittenberg (3–6, 2–5 NCAC). The Little Giants now hold a 15–13 advantage in the all-time series, including an 9–6 record in Crawfordsville.
Wittenberg jumped out to a 14–0 lead midway through the second quarter behind quarterback JJ. Miller who finished with 211 passing yards and three total touchdowns. Miller capped a short three-play, 26-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run after a Wabash interception to give the Tigers a 7–0 lead with 3:05 left in the first quarter. He added a one-yard scoring plunge to finish a five-play, 62-yard march early in the second quarter, extending the advantage to 14–0
But Wabash answered just before halftime with a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by an eight-yard scoring strike from quarterback
Brand Campbell to
Konner Chase with five seconds remaining to make it 14–7 at the break.
The Little Giants' defense and special teams swung momentum in the third quarter. After forcing a punt, Campbell engineered a 49-yard drive that ended with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Adams to even the score at 14–14. Moments later, Wabash blocked a punt deep in Tiger territory, and Campbell again found Adams — this time from five yards out — to give the Little Giants their first lead of the game at 21-14. The Little Giants came into the game tied with the most blocked punts by a Division III team with four this season.
Wittenberg tied the score at 21–21 early in the fourth quarter on Miller's five-yard touchdown pass to Donald Bailey, completing an 85-yard march. But Wabash responded immediately with a seven-play, 64-yard drive, highlighted by Campbell's short passes to Adams and
Nick Witte to move into the red zone. Adams capped the series by catching his third touchdown of the day, a 12-yard grab in the back of the end zone with 5:30 left to play.
The Tigers mounted one final drive into Wabash territory, but Holsclaw intercepted Miller at the five-yard line with under 1:41 remaining. The Little Giants were able to run out the clock to earn the victory.
Saturday's win mirrored last year's 31–28 Wabash victory in Springfield, Ohio, when the Little Giants rallied from a halftime deficit behind Campbell's two touchdown passes, with
TJ Alexander's late touchdown catch clinching the win.
Campbell completed 25 of 39 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns, while Adams finished with nine receptions for 67 yards and three scores. Chase added five catches for 90 yards and one touchdown, and Witte caught six passes for 80 yards. Running back
Xavier Tyler led the ground game with 45 yards on 16 carries.
Miller paced Wittenberg with 211 passing yards, one touchdown, and 61 rushing yards. Wide receiver Pierce Ayers caught six passes for 119 yards for the Tigers, who totaled 295 yards of offense compared to 299 for Wabash.
Defensively,
Gavin Ruppert and
Brock Robertson each made eight tackles for the Little Giants.
Samuel Ringer added an interception and seven stops, while Holsclaw's late pick sealed the outcome.
Wabash wraps up the road portion of its 2025 NCAC schedule next Saturday at Oberlin College.
