The Wabash College tennis team opened the 2025 spring portion of the season Saturday by splitting a pair of home matches at the Collett Tennis Center. The Little Giants earned a 6-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the morning match before falling 4-3 in a tight contest to Cedarville University in the evening match.
Cole Shifferly and Auguston Ghidini combined for a 6-4 victory at number one doubles to open the match against Illinois Wesleyan (0-3).
Rafael Rin and
Murilo Guarniari secured the doubles point with a 6-2 victory in the number-two doubles flight.
Shifferly won his number-one single match 6-4, 6-0. Rin scored a straight-sets 6-2, 6-2 victory at number two singles. Guarniari won 6-4, 6-0 in the third singles flight.
Maksymilian Domanski earned a three-set win at number four singles by scores of 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), and 12-10 in the tiebreaker.
Jett Brownlee closed out the team scoring with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at number six singles.
Wabash (1-1) lost all three doubles matches to Cedarville (5-4) but rallied for wins in the top three singles matches. Shifferly came back from a first-set loss at 5-7 to win 6-2, 10-6 at number one singles. Rin scored a 6-3, 7-6 (5-7), 10-6 victory at number two singles. Guarniari also went three sets before capturing a win at number three singles by scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
The match came down to the final singles contest with a three-set decision in the fifth flight, with the Yellow Jackets claiming the 4-3 victory.
Wabash is back at home next Saturday with matches against Hanover and Otterbein beginning at 9 a.m.
