Tennis Sweeps Matches Over Simpson, Principia

ELSAH, Illinois --- The Wabash College tennis team scored two 7-0 wins on Saturday to improve to 7-2 for the season. The Little Giants defeated Simpson College from Iowa 7-0 in the first match before knocking off host Principia College 7-0 in the second contest.
 
Wabash won all three doubles matches against Simpson, starting with a 6-4 win by Vittorio Bona and Ethan Koeneman at number one singles. Eric Tien and Eduardo Werneck combined for a 6-0 shutout at number two singles. Jett Brownlee and Blake Discher II earned a 6-0 shutout win in the third doubles flight.
 
Bona won his number-one singles match 6-0, 6-1. Werneck scored a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 victory at number two singles. Tien picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third singles flight to secure the team win. Brownlee added a 6-0, 6-1 win at number four singles. Sam Solo Garcia won 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles, as did Faustino Dimuro at number six singles.
 
The Little Giants swept the three doubles matches in the second contest against Principia. Augusto Ghidini and Cole Shifferly won 6-3 in the first doubles match. Rafael Rin and Murilo Guarniari scored a 7-5 victory in the second doubles flight. Tharkesh Ashokar and Bona combined for a 6-0 win at number three doubles.
 
Shifferly won his number-one singles contest 7-5, 6-2. Rin picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two singles. Ashokar won his third singles flight 6-3, 6-4. Guarniarii earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at number four singles. Ghidini won 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles. Maksymilian Domanski earned the final victory for the Little Giants with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles.
 
Wabash starts the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Friday, February 28, with a home match against Kenyon College.
