LAFAYETTE, Indiana -- Junior
Caleb Everson had everything working on Friday, punching out eight
University of Wisconsin-Platteville hitters over 6.2 innings of work to help lead the Wabash College Little Giants over the Pioneers 11-1.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Everson (1-0) threw 6.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and walking none for Wabash (2-1).
Offensively, the Little Giants were led by freshman
Will Wallace, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Sophomore
Will Fremion put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Senior Camden
Scheidt also helped out for Wabash, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Wabash picked up a pair of runs in the frame.
The Pioneers (1-1) cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the third inning before Wabash scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from
Fremion for a 5-1.
Wabash held
Wisconsin-Platteville without a run before building its lead to 7-1 in the fifth inning. The Little Giants added two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from Wallace.
Wabash added three more runs in the sixth before closing the game in the seventh with a final run to end the contest on the ten-run rule on an RBI single off the bat of senior
Michael Galanos.
