WOOSTER, OH – Wabash saw its five-game winning streak against The College of Wooster snapped Saturday afternoon with a 66-61 North Coast Athletic Conference game road loss to the Fighting Scots.
The Little Giants fall to 13-8 overall and 9-3 in NCAC contests with the loss. Wooster improves to 17-5 overall with a 9-4 conference record. Wabash sits in second place in the NCAC standings with four conference games remaining. The Little Giants trail league-leading Denison by two games and hold just a half-game lead over third-place Wooster after splitting the season series with the Scots.
Senior
Noah Hupmann collected a double-double with a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. He added four more blocked shots to his single-season record, giving him 80 for the year.
In addition to Hupmann's double-double, the Little got 15 points from
Vinny Buccilla, 11 from
Nate Matelic, and 10 from
Josh Whack.
Ashton Price paced the Scots' offense with 17 points. Jamir Billings scored 14 points, all in the second half.
How It Happened
After falling behind 12-11, Wabash went on an 8-0 run with 11:59 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from
Josh Whack, to take a 19-12 lead. Wooster responded with a 10-0 run to take a 24-21 lead with 5:53 remaining in the first half. The Little Giants cut the advantage to one point before Wooster ended the half on a 4-0 run for a 33-28 lead at the break.
After intermission, Wabash kept the Fighting Scots from increasing their lead before going on a 7-0 run to seize a 42-40 lead with 11:49 to go in the contest. Wooster re-asserted control, outscoring the Little Giants 26-19 the rest of the way to hand Wabash the 66-61 loss.
