Fremion's Grand Slam Paces Wabash To 14-0 Win Over Northwestern (MN)

FORT PIERCE, Florida  -- A sixth-inning grand slam from Will Fremion highlighted a seven-run inning for Wabash in the Little Giants' 14-0  victory over the University of Northwestern (MN) on Monday.

Fremion launched his first collegiate home run with the bases loaded in the sixth after Wabash (4-3) had already scored six runs in the fifth inning. The sophomore outfielder collected two hits and one walk in four trips to the plate. Shortstop Ben Henke added three hits and a walk with two RBI in the spring break victory.

Aidan McConnell and Connor Lambert combined to toss a shutout. McConnell (2-0) started and picked up the win for Wabash, going five shutout innings while giving up four hits, walking one, and striking out four. Lambert was also dealing out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings, allowing one hit, walking one, and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Little Giants took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Will Phillips came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash, scoring on a throwing error to put the Little Giants up 1-0.  

Wabash scored its six-spot in the fifth inning by getting a two-run single from Evan Neukum. A wild pitch by Northwestern (0-5) plated another run ahead of a bases-loaded walk to Miles Cvelbar. Phillips gave Wabash a 7-0 lead with a groundout that scored Bradley Gilliam. Phillips picked up another RBI with a single in the sixth following Fremion's blast. Henke produced the game's final runs with a two-run double to put the Little Giants up 14-0 before the game ended after seven innings due to the ten-run rule.
