Wabash Rallies To Sweep Hiram In NCAC Opener

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana --- Wabash hosted Hiram on Saturday to begin the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of the 2025 season. The Little Giants swept the series with a 12-2 win in seven innings in game one before rallying for a 9-5 victory in game two.

DJ Mendez racked up four RBIs to help lead the Wabash Little Giants past the Hiram Terriers 12-2 on Saturday.
 
Mendez went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in addition to his four RBIs for the Little Giants. Camden Scheidt also put together a standout performance at the dish, going 1-for-4 with a home run to end the game by the 10-run rule, along with a walk and two RBI. Will Phillips also helped out for Wabash, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
 
Caleb Everson (2-2) got the win for Wabash (12-6, 2-0). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Wabash pushed across two runs in the frame, with the big blow coming on an RBI double from Will McKinzie.
 
The Terriers failed to push any runs across before the Little Giants offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Mendez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Little Giants.
 
Wabash kept Hiram without a run before expanding their lead to 5-0 the following inning.
 
Wabash expanded its lead in the fifth inning. The inning resulted in three runs for the Little Giants, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Mendez to left-center, bringing the score to 8-0 in favor of Wabash.
 
Hiram got within 8-2 until the Little Giants scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 12-2. The Wabash offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Scheidt to end the game.

Wabash broke through after a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning to take down the Hiram 9-5 Saturday.

Robbie Manuzzi (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Wabash. The southpaw went 3.1 shutout innings, giving up four hits, one walk, and striking out four.

At the plate, the Little Giants were paced by Scheidt, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBI. McKinzie also put together a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Will Phillips also helped out for Wabash, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Henke's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Wabash.

The Terriers then scored three runs to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Little Giants responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves to even the score at 5-5.
 
That 5-5 tie turned into a 9-5 Wabash lead in the seventh. The Little Giants bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a one-run sacrifice flyout off Scheidt's bat. The score remained 9-5 for the rest of the game as Wabash coasted to the win.
