Ninth-Inning Walk-off Wild Pitch Secures Doubleheader Sweep Of Oberlin

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana --- Wabash got a walk-off win on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a 7-6 win as part of a North Coast Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader against Oberlin. The Little Giants won game one 7-4.
 
Wabash (15-7, 5-1 NCAC) got a one-out single by Camden Scheidt in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two with the score tied at 6-6. Scheidt advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third on an errant throw on a ground ball off the bat of Ben Henke. Oberlin (7-16, 0-4 NCAC) brought the infield in to try and cut down the winning run at the plate, but a wild pitch allowed Scheidt to race home with the winning run.
 
GAME 1 | Wabash 7, Oberlin 4

Wabash got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Little Giants put seven runs on the board and knock off the Oberlin Yeomen 7-4 Monday.
 
Caleb Everson (3-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Wabash. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing no walks and striking out six. Dylan Haslett also made an impact on the mound for the Little Giants, throwing 1.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts to earn his second save of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Wabash got an RBI single from Evan Neukam, scoring Will Fremion from third base.
The Little Giants held the Yeomen scoreless before getting back on the board the next inning. Wabash plated two runs off of Oberlin pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Will Phillips, which brought the Little Giants lead to 3-0.
Oberlin narrowed Wabash's lead to 3-2 before the Little Giants stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the seventh inning. The Little Giants bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Henke. Oberlin put two runs on the scoreboard before the game ended, but Wabash still held on for the 7-4 win.

Wabash rallied to score one in the ninth inning and walked it off at the plate to pick up the 7-6 win over the Oberlin Yeomen Monday.
 
Jackson Woehr (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Wabash (15-7, 5-1). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Wabash got an RBI single from Michael Galanos, scoring Will McKinzie from second base.
 
The Yeomen tied the ballgame at one before the Little Giants returned to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Will Fremion came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Little Giants.
 
Oberlin clawed back to even the ballgame at two before Wabash reclaimed a 5-2 advantage in the fifth inning. The Little Giants added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Scheidt.
The Yeomen gained ground, closing the gap to 5-4 until Wabash added some insurance in the seventh. Phillips crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Little Giants, bringing the Wabash advantage to 6-4.
 
Oberlin then rallied to tie the ballgame at 6-6 before Wabash walked it off in the bottom of the ninth when Scheidt came across to score.
