Henke Earns NCAC Gold Glove; Kirsch Named Newcomer of the Year

Wabash College junior Ben Henke was named the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference Gold Glove Award recipient for his defensive play at shortstop, as well as garnering a First Team All-NCAC selection. Teammate Jarrod Kirsch was named the 2025 NCAC Baseball Newcomer of the Year as a freshman pitcher. Wabash head coach Jake Martin and assistant coaches Mac Lozer, Caleb Fenimore, Ceasar Barrientos, and student assistant coach Conner Stidham were named the NCAC Baseball Coaching Staff of the Year. Joining Henke as First Team All-NCAC selections are first baseman Camden Scheidt and pitcher Caleb Everson. Catcher Will McKinzie, outfielder Will Phillips, and designated hitter Evan Neukam received Second Team All-NCAC honors.
 
Henke committed only one error in 75 total chances in NCAC games this season to finish with a .989 fielding percentage at shortstop. He was part of 11 double plays turned by the Little Giants in NCAC contests. He joins former teammate AJ Reid as the only players to receive the NCAC Gold Glove Award, which started in 2024. Henke ranks tenth in total assists in Wabash history with 288 entering his final season and is 11th with 64 career double plays turned. He hit .364 in 42 games to rank tenth among NCAC players, finishing the season with 63 hits and 29 runs scored. Henke collected 39 RBI and produced a .474 slugging percentage with a team-best 14 doubles to go with a triple and a home run.
 
The conference coaches voted Kirsch the NCAC Newcomer of the Year after posting a 4-1 overall record with a 4.98 earned run average in his first collegiate season. The freshman left-hander was 2-0 in conference games, including a 4-2 victory against third-ranked Denison. He worked seven innings against the nationally ranked Big Red, scattering six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Kirsch fanned 37 batters in 14 appearances overall to set the Wabash single-season record by a freshman pitcher. He worked 43.1 innings with eight starts, allowing 49 hits, 17 walks, and 24 earned runs. Kirsch struck out 15 batters in conference games to rank 15th among NCAC pitchers.
 
Martin and his staff guided Wabash to 27 wins in 2025, the most victories in a regular season in program history and the second-most overall behind a 32-win season in 2018. Martin moved to second on the Wabash all-time wins list for baseball coaches with 192 and trails all-time leader Scott Boone with 212 career victories. The Little Giants earned their highest seed in the conference tournament as a two-seed by finishing with a program-record 12 wins in 16 conference contests.
 
Scheidt earned all-conference honors for the third time in his career after garnering a Second Team selection in 2023 and Third Team honors in 2022 as an outfielder. The senior rewrote the Wabash record book this season, setting new career marks for total hits (219), runs scored (185), doubles (54), triples (18), and walks (112). Scheidt drove in 43 runs and scored 44 times while collecting 56 hits this season. He added 12 doubles, two triples, and five home runs to his career totals in 2025, along with 30 walks. Scheidt led Wabash and ranked third among conference players with 28 hits in NCAC contests. He led the NCAC in RBI with 29 in conference 16 conference games, while his .758 slugging percentage ranked second. Scheidt produced a 1.258 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) to finish third in the finals NCAC rankings.  
 
Everson joins Scheidt as a First Team All-NCAC selection after earning Third Team honors in 2024. The junior finished with a 6-3 record with a 4.23 earned run average in 2025 to give him 16 career wins over three seasons, the eighth-most in Wabash history. Everson allowed 62 hits and 16 walks over 61.2 innings in 12 appearances with 48 strikeouts. He ranks tenth in career strikeouts with 146. Everson led the conference with five victories in NCAC games this season. He struck out 21 NCAC batters this season to rank ninth among conference pitchers, while his 32.1 innings pitched were the second-most by an NCAC pitcher.
 
McKinzie earns all-conference honors for the first time in his career with his Second Team selection at catcher. The junior hit .336 this season with 48 hits, including nine doubles, three triples, and two home runs. He drove in 32 runs and scored 37 runs. McKinzie's 17 walks and one hit by pitch provided a .402 on-base percentage. He posted 14 multi-hit games and delivered two or more RBI in seven games this season. McKinzie did not commit an error at catcher in 16 NCAC contests while recording 49 putouts and three assists in conference games.  
 
Phillips also earned all-conference honors with his Second Team selection for the first time in his career. The senior outfielder batted .322 for the season with 49 hits, 32 RBI, and 37 runs scored. He delivered six doubles and three triples and stole seven bases in 11 attempts. Six of his RBI came on sacrifice flies, giving him 12 sac flies for his career to rank fourth in Wabash baseball history. Phillips drew 12 walks in 16 NCAC games to rank second among conference players.
 
Neukam was selected to the all-conference team for the first time in his career. The senior, who earned Second Team honors as a designated hitter while also splitting catching duties throughout the season with McKinzie, led the Little Giants with four triples. He batted .358 for the season, second-best an the Wabash team, and delivered 29 runs scored and 14 RBI. Neukam ranked third among NCAC players with a .442 batting average in conference games and a .567 on-base percentage. He produced a conference-best three triples in NCAC contests.
