CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Wabash College celebrated Senior Recognition Day with an offensive outburst Saturday, scoring five first-half goals on the way to a 6-1 victory over Principia as part of the College's annual Homecoming weekend.
The Little Giants improved to 9-1-1 with the victory while outshooting the Panthers 29-6 and holding a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wabash honored seniors Luis Martinez, Will Aurrichio, Ty Freeman, Alfredo Campos and Bryce Kinnaman before the match.
Kinnaman needed only 33 seconds to put Wabash in front, scoring off an assist from Ethan Simmons for a 1-0 lead.
Simmons doubled the advantage in the 14th minute, converting assists from Danny Tkachuk and JD Branigan at 13:57. Kinnaman struck again just 58 seconds later, taking a pass from Campos and scoring his second goal of the match for a 3-0 Wabash lead.
Principia (2-5) cut the margin to 3-1 on a Tyler Meier goal at 19:56, but the Little Giants answered only 19 seconds later. Simmons scored his second goal of the match off an assist from Kinnaman to restore the three-goal advantage.
Sebastian Licon completed the five-goal opening half for Wabash with a goal at 30:41 off an assist from Alex Burke. The assist was Burke's first of the season.
Wabash continued to control possession and create scoring opportunities in the second half before Martinez provided another Senior Day highlight in the 72nd minute. Martinez scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Willer Montesinos to extend the Little Giants' lead to 6-1. The assist was Montesinos' first of the year.
Simmons and Kinnaman led the Wabash attack with two goals and one assist apiece. Simmons' two goals marked the first multi-goal match of his career, and he earned his first game-winning goal of the season. Kinnaman put two of his three shots on goal.
Martinez scored once while producing a team-high five shots, including two on goal. Licon added three shots along with his first-half goal. Campos recorded an assist for the second consecutive match.
Rafael Cordova made one save for Wabash as the Little Giants limited Principia to six total shots and two attempts on goal.
Wabash established season highs with six goals and seven assists in the victory.
The Little Giants return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a non-conference road match against Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
