Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I’m eligible to compete?
In order to be eligible to compete in intercollegiate athletics at Wabash College, you must be enrolled full-time and making progress towards a degree. There are exceptions to the full-time requirement during your final semester of attendance, however, these are relatively uncommon (for more information, click here).

What do I do if practice is scheduled during one of classes? How about a game?
You may not skip or be excused from class in order to attend an athletics practice or competition during the non-traditional season. However, you may need to miss the occasional class to travel and participate in athletics competition during the traditional season. Should you find yourself in this situation you will receive a Dean’s Excuse, but please remember to communicate with your professor(s) about missed class time as well.

If I get hurt and can’t play anymore, do I lose that season of competition?
Regardless of whether or not you played, after the start of first competition of the season for your sport, you have used one of your four seasons of competition. If you become sick or injured later on and are unable to finish the season, you may be eligible for a hardship waiver which would grant you an additional season of competition. In order to qualify for a hardship waiver the following criteria must be met:
  • Injury/illness occurred during first half of the playing season and you didn’t compete in more than one-third of contests;
  • Injury/illness left you unable to finish remainder of season; and
  • There is medical documentation from the time of the injury/illness that states the nature of the injury/illness and establishes your inability to compete.
If you’d like to pursue a hardship waiver, please contact the compliance coordinator for more information.

I’m thinking of transferring to another college, what should I do?
In order to contact coaches at any division of the NCAA (and allow them to contact you), please email the compliance coordinator with your sport(s), cellular phone number, and preferred email address in order to be entered into the Transfer Portal. If you are put into the Transfer Portal you do not have to transfer, you can ask to be taken out at any time.

If you’re thinking of leaving for another Division III institution, you may fill out a Self-Release Form. This will allow you to speak with another coach for thirty days without anyone at Wabash having to know. If you have questions about this, email the compliance coordinator (your coaches will not be informed).

In order to contact coaches within the NAIA, please contact the compliance coordinator for a release letter.

Please know that while we’re sorry to see you go, if leaving Wabash College is in your best interest we will help make that transition as smooth as possible.

You know, life is crazy with COVID-19 and I’m worried about losing a season without getting to play. Has the NCAA done anything to help us play again after all this is over?
The NCAA has released several waivers related to playing and practice seasons. Keep an eye on your student email for updates as they are released and don't hesitate to reach out to the compliance coordinator with any questions.
