Jake Shumaker joined the Wabash College cross country coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2025.
Shumaker graduated from Millikin University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. He was the recipient of the Scovill Prize, Jack Swartz Award, Podeschi Award, and earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America Academic All-America honors. He earned a Master of Science degree in business analytics from the University of Notre Dame in May 2025.
While at Millikin, Shumaker competed for the Big Blue cross country and track and field programs and served as a senior consultant for Millikin University Performance Consulting, managing more than 20 student consultants for over 15 client projects. His work focused on IT consulting for businesses and non-profits in the Decatur, Illinois, area.
Shumaker placed eighth in the 800-meter run at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships to earn All-America honors and placed 15th at the 2023 NCAA meet. He scored a fifth-place finish in the 800 at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships and added a tenth-place finish at the 2024 NCAA competition. Shumaker also qualified for the 2022 NCAA outdoor meet, finishing 18th overall in the 800 prelims.
Shumaker also gained professional experience as a software engineer intern with State Farm and co-founded Pulse Marketing in 2023, serving as chief product officer. Under his leadership, the company launched 13 responsive websites, generating more than 500,000 unique users for businesses and non-profits between January and October 2024.
