Joe Riordan enters his sixth season at Wabash and assists with the Little Giant defensive backs. In his eight years coaching college football he has coached numerous players awarded with all-conference and all-regional honors.
Riordan came to Wabash College after serving as the defensive coordinator at Anderson University. In his lone season at Anderson he mentored four All-HCAC student-athletes. Prior to Anderson, he served as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Webber International University in 2016. The Warrior defense ranked seventh nationally, first in in pass defense and 15th nationally in total defense. The Warriors' punt return unit also ranked ninth nationally.
Riordan coached at the high school level. First at Bishop Ireton in Alexandria, VA, then at Fishers High School in Fishers, IN. He served as the defensive backs coach and co-special teams coordinator where he was privileged to coach multiple all-state, Division I defensive backs and set school records for pass defense.
He began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at Ball State University in 2010. In this capacity Riordan assisted the Cardinals defensive staff, primarily in the defensive backfield, with scouting, planning, and implementation of drills as well as concepts. In addition to this role, he assisted the Special Teams Coordinator with practice planning and assisted coaching returners.
Riordan was selected in 2017 to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 30-Under-30 Leadership Group. The purpose of the program is to identify and to train the next generation of leaders within the football coaching profession. He and his wife, Sarah, reside in Indianapolis with their sons Miller and Morris.
