Bute is in his third season as an assistant coach working with the throwers for the Wabash track and field team. Bute also serves as the strength and conditioning coach for the Little Giant football team.

He helped Wabash earn North Coast Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor track and field championships in 2022. Bute was part of the Little Giants' indoor and outdoor NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022. He coached conference champion and all-region discus thrower Reis Thomas and all-conference shot putter Brandon English. Bute's throwers accumulated 23 points at the outdoor conference championship meet and scored 10 points with one all-conference performance at the indoor championship.
Bute's throwers scored a total of 69 points to help Wabash capture the 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship team title. Seven of his athletes earned All-NCAC honors with top-three finishes with two claiming individual conference championships. Thomas and Brandon Peck earned All-Great Lakes Region honors from the USTFCCCAÂ in the discus. Peck also received all-region honors in the indoor shot put and weight throw.
Bute came to Wabash in August 2020 from Duquesne University where he worked from 2016-2020 as an assistant on the track and field team. He helped the Dukes set five university records and post 15 top-five marks. Four of his student-athletes earned all-conference honors along with one NCAA East Regional qualifier.

Bute served as a track and field coach at North Hills High School from 2014-2016. Four of his North Hills student-athletes set top-five school marks with two sectional meet qualifiers.

Bute is no stranger to competition in the North Coast Athletic Conference. He graduated from Denison University in 2014 as a theater major while also competing in both track and field and football. He earned four varsity letters and capped his career with a seventh-place finish in the shot put at the 2014 conference outdoor track and field championship meet. Bute ranks in the top-five in Big Red history in the shot put, discus, and hammer. He also earned two varsity letters as a defensive lineman on the Denison football team. Bute’s great-grandfather, Gene Kessler, graduated from Wabash in 1924.
