Richter joined the Wabash College basketball program in July 2021. He came to the Little Giants from Berry College where he spent three seasons as an assistant coach. The Vikings finished 13-1 in 2020-2021 and finished the season ranked 11th in the D3hoops.com poll. Berry won the Southern Athletic Association regular season and conference tournament in 2021.

The Vikings finished 19-7 overall in Richter’s first season as an assistant for the most wins in a single season in school history since joining the NCAA Division III. Berry repeated the 19-win effort with a 19-9 campaign in 2019-2020 for an overall record of 51-17 over three seasons, the best three-year stretch in school history. Richter helped nine players earn all-conference selections during his time with the Vikings.

Richter spent the 2017-18 season as a video coordinator at the University of New Orleans after serving one season at White River Valley High School as the head junior varsity basketball coach and social studies teacher.

Richter graduated from Butler University in 2016 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in middle and secondary education. He worked three seasons as a student manager for the Bulldogs, during which the team made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the Round of 32. Richter also coached the freshman basketball team at Bishop Chatard while he was a student at Butler. He earned an MBA from the Campbell School of Business at Berry in 2021. Richter's grandfather, Walter Williams, graduated from Wabash in 1948.
