Chris Deig pounded out four hits and
Montana Timmons produced four RBI in a pair of season-opening losses for the Wabash baseball team. The Little Giants fell 4-3 in the first game at Rhodes College before losing 5-2 to the Lynx in the nightcap.
Timmons drove home the first run of the year with an RBI double to right-center following a
John Holm triple. Rhodes rallied with three unearned runs in the fourth to move in front 3-1.
Ross Hendrickson reached on a throwing error to open the fifth inning. Deig singled through the right side before a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third for Wabash. The Lynx decided to walk Holm, and Timmons made them pay with a two-run single to left to tie the game at 3-3.
Rhodes came back with a one-out, bases-loaded single to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Andrew Swart went the distance in his first start of the season, scattering four hits while allowing only one earned run in 6-1/3 innings of work. He struck out six and walked three, including one intentional pass in the seventh inning.
Deig and Timmons started the scoring in game two in the first inning. Deig singled to open game two, one of his three hits the contest. A ground ball off the bat of Timmons after a
Robby Hechinger single and a double-steal by the Little Giants gave Wabash a 1-0 lead. Rhodes responded with a pair of runs in the first before Deig and Timmons struck again in the third. Deig led off the inning with a double then scored on an RBI single by Timmons. The Lynx came back with two runs in the fourth and another in fifth
JT Miller took the loss for Wabash. He threw four innings, allowing five hits and four runs with four walks and four strikeouts.
Jeff Soller worked the final two innings, surrendering one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Hechinger finished with two hits in addition to the four from Deig and three from Timmons.
Wabash (0-2) and Rhodes (5-1) will play a single nine-inning contest on Sunday.
