Box Score Andrew Swart held DeSales to two hits over seven innings to record his 17th career victory. The Little Giants pounded out 14 hits in a 12-1 Wabash victory to begin the team's spring break road trip in Texas.
The victory moves Swart into a tie for fifth with Carey Tonovitz '98 on the Wabash all-time pitching list. Swart also added nine strikeouts to his career totals, placing him fourth on the all-time list with 170.
John Holm finished with four RBI while hitting his fourth home run of the season, while
John Pennington added first homer of the year and three RBI in the victory.
Swart's only real mistake of the game came in the first inning when DeSales catcher Brian Mauro parked a solo home run over the fence to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Timmons and Pennington combined for the first run of the game for Wabash.
Montana Timmons opened the second inning with a double before racing home on Pennington's RBI single.Timmons produced two more runs in the third with a double to score
Chris Deig and Holm, but Timmons was thrown out at third. Pennington followed with a double, then scored on a single by
Andrew Rodgers.
Pennington slammed his first home run of the season in the fifth to give Wabash a 5-1 lead before the Little Giants blew the game open in the sixth. Wabash tallied three runs on RBI singles by Holm and Pennington and a throwing error by the Bulldogs. Holm added three more runs in the seventh when he belted a shot deep into the San Antonio night for his team-best 16th RBI of the year.
Jeff Soller pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Ollie Bauer closed out the ninth in the same fashion to help Wabash improve to 3-4 for the season.
Pennington led Wabash with four hits, while
Chris Deig, Holm, Timmons, Rodgers, and
Robby Hechinger each tallied two hits. Timmons had two RBI.
The Little Giants continue their Texas series on Monday with a game at Schreiner University.
