Box Score John Pennington produced an RBI single in the seventh inning after
Tyler Owensby broke up a no-hitter by Jake Eaton one batter earlier in a 7-1 loss by Wabash at Anderson University Wednesday night.
John Holm led off the seventh inning with a walk before Owensby laced a two-out single to left for the Little Giants' first hit. Eaton had retired 20 of the 23 batters he faced prior to the Wabash freshman's single, allowing just three walks to Owensby, Pennington, and Holm.
Pennington followed Owensby's hit with another single to score Holm and end the shutout.
Anderson (18-8) scored a run in the first inning off a leadoff walk, a single, a flyout to move the runners to second and third, and a ground ball out that produced the run. The Ravens added two more runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and a final run in the seventh while collecting 10 hits in the contest. Wabash also made three errors in the game, while Anderson played error-free baseball.
The loss produced a season split between the two teams. Wabash rallied for a 13-11 win at home nearly two weeks ago.
Chris Widup started and took the loss. He allowed three hits and one run in three innings of work with two walks and one strikeout.
Jeff Soller surrendered five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks in 2-1/3 innings on the mound. He struck out four.
Luke Zinsmaster pitched the final 2-2/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Wabash (13-17) returns to action in the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division with a four-game series at DePauw beginning Saturday afternoon.
