Box Score Wabash tallied 17 hits and scored seven runs in the first two innings to defeat Robert Morris University (Chicago) 13-4 in the final home game of the 2012 season.
Senior
Eric Foust picked up the victory in his final home start, pitching five innings while allowing three runs on six hits with four walks and a strikeout. Fellow seniors
Chris Deig and
John Holm each collected three hits in their final game at Wabash Ballpark.
Junior
Montana Timmons also had three hits as did freshman
Lucas Stippler, who led the team with three RBI for the day.
Wabash got off to a fast start, scoring six runs in the first inning. Deig led off with a single, then moved to third when
John Pennington's sacrifice attempt was mishandled by the Eagles (38-15). Timmons single home a run, followed by Holm sacrifice fly to put the Little Giants up 2-0. Another error allowed
Tyler Hampton to reach base after an
Andrew Rodgers single to load the bases.
Trey Fankhauser came through with a single to center to score Timmons, then Stippler was hit by pitch to bring home the fourth run of the inning. A walk to
Robby Hechinger scored another run, then a fielder's choice for Deig completed the barrage for Wabash.
The Little Giants added another run in the second on an RBI flyout by Rodgers, and another with a flyout off the bat of Hechinger in the fifth. Wabash scored five more in the sixth off a double by Timmons, a single from Holm, a double from Fankhauser, and a single by Stippler.
Adding to the hit totals for Wabash were Hampton and Fankhauser with two apiece, and Rodgers with one.
Austin Hawn worked the sixth and seventh innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk.
John Penn gave two hits in a scoreless eighth inning, while
Chris Widup surrendered a leadoff single before retiring the final three batters of the ninth inning.
Wabash (16-22) will finish the 2012 season on the road with a pair of rain-out make up games at DePauw University on Saturday beginning at noon at Walker Field.
