The first sporting event of Monon Bell Week took place Wednesday night with DePauw University capturing a 181-89 victory over Wabash College in men's swimming.
Zechariah Banks claimed a pair of victories in the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. Banks won the 200 with a time of 2:11.64 before capping his evening with a victory a time of 4:18.58 in the IM.
Jack Belford added a third-place finish in the medley with a time of 4:20.01. Belford also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.80).
Arturo Granados and
Joel Paquin scored a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle. Granados won the event with a time of 10:13.30. Paquin touched less than three seconds later, finishing second in 10:16.05.
Elliot Johns scored a victory in the 200 backstroke with a winning time of 1:57.07.
Jake Childress finished fourth, touching the wall in 2:01.88. Johns also took second place in the 200 freestyle by finishing in 1:46.90. Childress also picked up a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.64.
Aaron Troyer finished fourth in the 100 back (55.54).
Carter Adams took second place in the 100 butterfly by finishing in 53.47. He also grabbed second place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.49, while Belford finished third at 1:59.85.
Josh Bleisch was edged out of third place in the 100 breaststroke by 2/100th of a second. Bleisch claimed fourth place with a time of 1:02.03.
Wabash added a third-place finish in the opening 200-yard medley relay. Childress, Banks, Adams, and
Chris McGue combined to complete the event in 1:36.94.
The Little Giants will serve as hosts next week for the annual Patrick Woehnker Invitational. The two-day meet begins Friday, November 22 at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
