Box Score 2 The Little Giant baseball team traveled to Wooster, Ohio for a pair of non-conference games against the College of Wooster Saturday afternoon. The Scots took game one 4-0 before capping the sweep with a 5-2 win in the second contest.
Wabash trailed early in the first contest when Eddie Reese hit a three-run homer in the third inning to put the Scots on top. Wooster added the final run in the sixth after two Wabash errors extended the inning.
JT Miller (2-3) took the loss, pitching all eight innings while allowing four runs — three earned — on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout. The Little Giants collected six hits on offense, one each for Trey Fankauser,
Chad Gindelberger,
Robby Hechinger,
Andrew Rodgers,
Clint Scarborough, and
David Oliger.
The Little Giants trailed 2-0 in game two before rallying for a run in the sixth. Scarborough drew a one-out walk and moved to second on single by
Tyler Hampton. After Scarborough was thrown at third trying to advance on a possible wild pitch and Oliger drew a walk,
Lucas Stippler greeted relief pitcher Patrick Boyle with a single to score Hampton and cut the Wooster lead to one run.
The Scots added a run on a bases-loaded walk before Wabash could cut the lead to one run again. Hechinger stretched his hitting streak to 10 games with a one-out bunt single, then stole second. He advanced to third on a hard-hit single by Rodgers to third, then raced home when the ball got away after being knocked down the shortstop in the hole to make it a 3-2 contest.
Wooster (13-6) added a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run homer by Billy Farrow.
Wabash outhit the Scots 10-9. Fankhauser, Scarborough, and Hampton each had two hits, while
Tanner Watson, Hechinger, Rodgers, and Stippler added one apiece.
Chris Widup (1-4) took the loss, allowing just one earned run over 5-2/3 innings. He surrendered six hits and three total runs wiht two walks, a hit batsman, and three strikeouts.
Nelson Novack gave up two earned runs in 1-1/3 innings on three hits. He struck out two Wooster batters.
Christian Vukas retired all three batters he faced in the eighth inning, one by strikeout.
Wabash (8-12) returns to action Monday afternoon at Goodrich Ballpark in a 4 p.m. contest against Anderson University.
