Wabash tacked on two more runs in the second off three errors by the Warriors. Fankhauser reached base on catcher's interference, eventually racing home when
David Oliger reached base on an error by the Hendrix shortstop. Rodgers followed with a fielder's choice then scored on
Tyler Owensby's single.
Hendrix cut the Little Giants' lead to 6-4 after scoring three runs on three hits and a Wabash error in the third inning. The Little Giants pushed the advantage to 8-4 on an RBI double by Hampton and a groundout by Rains with runners at first and third in the fifth. Hendrix answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth before Mobley ripped a two-run single in the bottom of seventh to draw the Warriors to within a run. Hendrix tied the game in the eighth inning to set up the winning effort by Wabash in the ninth.
Rodgers opened the final frame by beating out an infield single to short. Scarborough and Owensby loaded the bases on a pair of bunt singles before Hampton's single gave Wabash the 9-8 lead. Hendrix picked up two outs on a double play, but Rains delivered his two-run single to score Hampton and Owensby. Vukas gave up two singles and a sacrifice fly before ending the game with a ground out for the save.
JT Miller worked five innings as the Wabash starter, allowing seven hits, four runs, and two walks with one strikeout. Only two of the four runs were earned.
Jensen Kirch worked 1-1/3 innings in his Wabash debut, giving up three runs on a hit, three walks, and a hit batsman. Bowman pitched 1-2/3 innings, holding Hendrix to a run on three hits. He walked one and struck out three to earn the victory.
Wabash trailed 1-0 when the Warriors posted seven runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to move in front 9-0. Owensby's bases-loaded walk started a three-run eighth inning for the Little Giants.
Justin Green and Zelenika also drew bases-loaded walks for a 9-3 contest before Hendrix (2-5) tacked on the final run in the bottom half of the eighth.
Ross Hendrickson took the loss in his first appearance since undergoing "Tommy John" surgery in 2012. He pitched four innings, holding Hendrix to a run, four hits, a walk, and a hit batsman.
Steven Curry gave up four runs on four hits in his first Wabash game, while
Cameron Glaze allowed three runs on three hits and two walks in his debut.
John Penn worked the final three innings, giving up a run on two hits, a walk, and three hit batsmen.
Oliger recorded two of the Little Giants' seven hits. Owensby, Zelenika,
Lucas Stippler, and
Andrew Roginski each finished with one hit.
